New National Center for
Gerontological Social Work Education
The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), with funding
from the John A. Hartford Foundation, has established
the National Center for Gerontological Social Work Education.
The Center, which is part of the Hartford Geriatric
Social Work Initiative, will be led by Julia Watkins,
Executive Director of CSWE, and Nancy Hooyman, Endowed
Professor in Gerontology at the University of Washington.
The goal of the center is to promote aging content and
expertise at the baccalaureate and master's level in
order to prepare all students to work effectively with
older adults and their families. The Center's goals
will be achieved through:
" Education of faculty to infuse competency-based
gerontological content into curriculum;
" Dissemination of state of the art educational
resources and best practices to the social work education
community;
" Policy analysis, development and dissemination
related to gerontological social work education;
" Leadership development for gerontological social
work education; and
" Translation of gerontological research into implications
for social work education and practice.
For more information on the Center, contact Jill Walker,
Executive Assistant, Council on Social Work Education
