GERIATRIC SOCIAL WORK INITIATIVE

The Hartford Geriatric Social Work Translational Research Conference:
Connecting Scholarship to Clients & Communities

Exterior

Chantilly, VA
April 4-6, 2008

On April 4-6, 2008, geriatric social work scholars and fellows from across the country met in Chantilly, Virginia to attend the Hartford Geriatric Social Work Translational Research Conference.  In addition to the translational research themed conference, the event doubled as a celebration, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Geriatric Social Work Initiative.  Approximately 150 past and present Hartford Doctoral Fellows, Hartford Faculty Scholars, and Program Committee Members attended this unique career development opportunity.

Featured speakers included Russell Glasgow, Sr. Scientist at Kaiser Permanente Clinical Research Unit, Richard Hodes, Director at NIA, and Lynda Anderson from CDC.  There was also a distinguished panel of social work scholars engaged in translational research including Kevin Mahoney (BC), Lynn McDonald (University of Toronto), and Sheryl Zimmerman (UNC).

Attendees of the Conference have become better versed in the RE-AIM translation model and are able to identify interventions that are ready for translation in their research interest areas.
