Faculty Development Program

The Faculty Development Program, administered by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and its Strengthening Aging and Gerontology Education in Social Work (SAGE-SW) initiative has two main objectives, to:

  • Provide faculty training opportunities that enhance the capacity of BSW and MSW faculty to teach gerontological content in the social work curriculum, particularly the foundation courses used in both BSW and MSW education; and
  • Strengthen social work education's capacity to transform gerontological data, resources and information into core educational practice.

The CSWE/SAGE-SW project had played a critical role in advancing gerontology competency for social work. As the standard-setting body for BSW and MSW education, CSWE's mission is to enhance the quality of social work education. CSWE/SAGE-SW has had overwhelming success in:

  • Developing gerontology resources and materials,
  • Providing Faculty Development Institutes (FDIs) for social work educators, and
  • Extending outreach, expertise and visibility for gerontology and geriatrics to the social work community.
